Promoviendo la Salud was awarded a $74,000 grant from Caring for Colorado, a non-profit health foundation. With the on-going state budget crisis, funding for many public health programs have been cut. The grant will enable Promoviendo la Salud to continue providing services and education to the Latino community in La Plata and Archuleta counties.

A program of San Juan Basin Health Department, Promoviendo la Salud seeks to reduce cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes among Latino adults by focusing on health promotion, early detection, and disease management.

The funding will be used to educate Latino adults about reducing their risk for chronic disease, provide low-cost health screenings and continue a clinic that teaches individuals with chronic disease how to monitor and improve their health.

For more information, call Karen Forest at 247-5702, ext. 207.
